There are 20 possible starter bags to choose from. All players choose their five starting bags from the same set of 20 possible bags. The set of 20 possible starting bags is called "The Store".
Players can add additional bags to their collection by searching out other game piece banners online. There are 20 bags hidden around the Internet on banner ads at various locations. Clicking on any of these banners automatically adds that bag to the player's collection. Note, these "scavenger hunt" bags are different from the 20 bags in The Store.
Each player can add up to six other players as "friends". Friends provide additional opportunities to score points in the game.
Over the course of the game, players will have opportunities to trade out bags from their collection for bags from The Store. Each week, the player is given three trades she can use to tweak her collection. Trades do not accumulate; players never have more than three trades. At the beginning of each week, the number of available trades for each player is replenished to three.
Players earn points by attending events. Each event has a brief description and a color swatch of the outfit that will be worn. To attend an event players log into the game at any point during the week and choose a bag from their collection to take to each event.
Each week there are seven events to attend (one per day). Once a player chooses a bag for one event, it is unavailable for any other events that week. Once the week is over, all the bags in the player's collection will become available again for next week's events. Players can log in and change their choices for remaining events at any time during the week.
Whenever a player logs into the game, she can view her score results for the week's previous events.
Points are earned according to several factors:
Each bag has a basic point value that is displayed at all times.
Each bag "matches" certain outfit colors and "clashes" with others. The color relationship for each bag is indicated on rollover, and will be added or subtracted from the total bag value.
Each bag in the collection has a daily popularity bonus which is determined by the percentage of players who chose this bag for this event. The popularity bonus is a multiplier which increases with the popularity of a bag. The current popularity bonus (based on which bags have been chosen so far for today's event by all players) is available for every bag in the player's collection.
The time bonus decreases over the course of a day. Players who select a bag in the morning will receive a greater bonus than those who select a bag later in the day. The current time bonus is always indicated for today's event, and will be added to the total bag value.
There are two kinds of friend bonuses that can be earned for each event. Friend bonuses are added to the total bag value.
Matching bonus — all friends (including the player) chose the same bag
Unique bonus — all friends (including the player) chose different bags
For each event, there is one bag that is selected by Kelly as the most appropriate bag for the event. If the bag you chose matches Kelly's Pick, then you receive the bonus, and it is added to the total value of your bag. Kelly's pick is only revealed after the event takes place.
